DDO (dungeons and dragons online) is free and has months of gameplay without spending a dime. But I would recommend leveling a toon to level 4 or 5, then buying the cheapest point pack, that unlocks 4 char slots and unlimited AH usage for $6. Glad to see people are still trying
The game is great, I started playing DDO again so I'm not DFing any longer but I know how to set up a kick ass fortress. Including a 40 high stack of pumps to flood the caverns with magma, take that cave crocodiles!

I'll get it about a year later. By then the mod community will have fixed most of the bugs and balance issues. I'm too old to pay to be a beta tester, minecraft being the obvious exception.

The game is awesome but the interface sucks and the learning curve is massive but nothing that can't be overcome.
