I "might" have found a way to un-update Minecraft

I'm not entirely true if this works or not, but I think I found an easy way to un-update Minecraft without downloading an old version. Here's what happened *cue fadeout to next scene*:
My sister was the first person to get on the computer the day of the 1.3 update (stupid Calc homework...) and didn't know about the new luancher or the fact updating would stop us from getting on. Soooo.... I assumed I was screwed. About a week later I tried to download a mod for 1.3_01 for the Steampunk Airship. I used TFC's mod manager to do the work (amazing program, I think it should be built in to Vanilla). After the modding was done, I logged on and the version had reverted to 1.2_02!
IMPORTANT INFO FOR LAZY READERS
+ Download version 11.2 of TFC's Mod Manager
+ Download version 2.0 of Steampunk Airship mod
+ Use TFC's MM to install Airship mod (no need to back up saves, it does it for you!)
+ Re-download the new luancher (for some reason it went back to the old one)
+ Open MC and enjoy!
If this doesn't work, let me know and tell me what happened exactly. I might be able to pinpoint the exact circumstances that allowed me to use this method.
