My solution for a laggy client

Hey everyone, thought I'd share. Won't do anything for block lag, but I was tired of getting glitched graphics (falling sand, gravel, hovering spasmodically in the air; black screens; low fps with lots of sprites, etc.) and so I did some research and found that for me, installing the beta version of the next Java RE (7b134) improved things dramatically. To wit, while before I couldn't run a texture pack higher than 32x32 on SMP without getting really low fps, I am now running "LB Photo Realism," (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic ... 1&t=136785), a 256x256 texture pack with zero slowdown. I mined IC for a couple hours tonight without getting a single black screen.
It might be worth it if you too are having these annoyances to go ahead and try it out. The download links for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows, Linux, and Solaris (Minecraft on a Solaris machine...) are at the following URL -- sorry, no beta for the Mac yet.
If you are running a 64-bit OS, be sure to download and install BOTH the 32-bit and 64-bit binaries; 32-bit OSes, just the 32-bit one.

If for some reason it doesn't work/makes things worse, just uninstall it and go to java.com to get the stable 6u24 release.
