Minecraft Chat Sucks!!! But Help Is Here!

We all know this. None of us know this more than Wokka, Sneaky, and our Op+s and moderators who have to navigate the morass of unfriendly Mode 40 text trying to help new players or address existing player concerns. What's a new or established player to do on a server growing so fast, with a chat interface that was made in 1984?! D: Complain to Notch, sure, but in the meantime, there's this:

"Improved Chat 2.4.3 for Beta 1.4_01"
This is a CLIENT-SIDE mod which does not afford any material advantage that would affect the Survival nature of our server; this also means IT IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THE ESCAPECRAFT STAFF and is therefore optional, as are any of the permitted client-side addons currently available. I post it here only because I think it is badass, and it has four features that should have been there from the start and that everybody would love:
1) Chat is logged back dozens and dozens of lines (too many to count, but it went on for pages when I tested it). Scrollback is achieved by pressing "T" as if to type and using Page Up/Page Down or the mousewheel, and scrollback persists between gaming sessions ;
2) Don't you hate it when the sentence you wish to send goes over the character limit? This addon will let you type up to three lines as one and send them sequentially, akin to the way SMS does for messages over 160 characters;
3) Copy-paste is enabled (but only for typing in the command line)
4) Command scrollback -- pressing "T" as if to type, then up or down on your keyboard scrolls through the lines or commands you've previously entered, and the command scrollback is also preserved between gaming sessions, though I'm not sure how far back;
5) And finally, if you just need some peace and quiet, the addon can enable you to ignore chat entirely by refusing to display any incoming lines. But as sociable a server as this is, I can't see why anybody would want to do that.
For the pros, there's REGULAR EXPRESSIONS D: as well as scripting. No /ignore command yet and somebody's driving you up the wall? Write up a script to ignore only their incoming lines. As mad as Wokka is about the 3-bit color options he has for chat? Can't stand the green of OT? Define custom colors from any of the 16,777,216 modern-day standard, and make OT come to you the way you want it.
Me, I'll probably use it mostly for the scrollback, so chatting doesn't seem like such a hassle to keep up with. Many of us seem a little frustrated by the new segmentation of chat, and for those of us who can, adding this mod will give us a little more control until Notch takes a page from the last 15 years of instant message history and fixes the sorry chat interface. The server team clearly want Escapecraft to become Number 1 among all public servers, and that's a prize such an awesome server like ours deserves, but it's only going to mean that even then, OT's going to be as messy as General is was will have been once we all move to it like good boys and girls.
(Note: There is also a Chat Logger addon featured on the same page, which I have installed and tested, and it works fine, except that it's tripling every line for reasons I cannot elucidate. :/ )
