Yes, it was mentioned that when it rains you cannot see the sun (duh) and the light level will decrease, this I expect will lead to mobs spawning like at night, so keep your areas well lit.

My god, I am very excited at the prospect of weather and powered rails

I'm hoping rain doesn't washout torches forcing you to replant them.

He did mention that rain would put out fires. Lava would be safe though.

I have not seen that blurb about netherrack fires, do you have a source for that?

Oh my, thing just got interesting if Notch plans to implement them in the actual game. Hmm, this calls for new cannon blueprints involving auto loaders.

Also, I've seen some godly cobble machines being done with them.
