Nether after the next MC update?

IIRC, the Nether is going to be supported in plain old vanilla SMP soon. How are you guys planning to handle that?

Will the Nether still be a separate world, or will it work in all worlds?

not a question for any Mods or even Admins. youd have to ask the Pluggin Authors for this.

Vallorn is correct, it depends on how its implemented and how plugins deal with it. I'm guessing that Notch just plans to build it just like SSP, so that when you build the obby and light it, it activates. If thats the case, bukkit may not have to do much with it at all, assuming world files don't change. I could be wrong on that assumption though :)

We will just have to wait and see. And as always, backup your MC, for when the update comes, I'm sure we'll be on 1.5 for a while until all plugins are updated.

The Nether is a separate server, correct? In SSP, it's a different world, but linked to the SSP save. I can only assume that this will mean each world will have a different Nether, meaning players will be able to set up their Nether portals and jump into a different world for each of the servers. I may be wrong however, that's just my guess.

No, our nether is another world, similar to how SSP does it. All 16 of our worlds are on the 1 server currently. Newer versions of bukkit are supposed to have some performance improvements for multi-world servers

Once vanilla Minecraft does get nether support, we should just stick with the set-up we have now. As far as I know nothing is wrong with it, so why try to fix something that isn't broken?

Well, the way the current nether works is a bit bizarre, it has day/night cycles, which can be seen as chunks load. You have no 8:1 ratio of distance, and players can't build their own portals.

Now, I'm not promising anything with the above issues, it may not be feasible to do any of them with multi-world support that we have now.

We will just have to wait and see how things play out.

I just hope that with the update, we don't start seeing ghasts coming out of the Nether... D:
