That's right Escapecraft! Pistons are coming and they bring TONS of fresh new Ideas/possibilities!
Post here what sort of CRAZY contraption you can or ( by the blessing of Single player mods ) have done so we can all get a head start on the fire that is inspiration! Ranging from puzzles to intricate/elaborate traps. You may also discuss your thoughts on the Pistons here and how it might affect your current buildings and so on.
In my case, the ZinHQ/Lab will get a huge overhaul with Pistons for sure, I can't wait to make amusing contraptions for the entertainment of the community

The puzzle map I have in the works is going to use a heaping helping of pistons. One room that's in planning right now will have Indiana Jones-style moving obstacles (but no giant boulder, unfortunately). Included are lava rocks that sink and then float back to the surface, a staircase with retractable stairs, and a wall of pistons that will push you into a pool of lava if your timing is off. Plus, secret passages! Woo!

I was actually thinking of having moving/traveling structures, kind of along the lines of Howl's Moving Castle. I think Pistons could perhaps make that work.

Ah Tom, I've been thinking about this for a looong loong time. I'm excited for it's short upcoming arrival.

All i'm planning on doing is attempting to make a sort of sci-fi fortress in the middle of nowhere, and only use sticky pistons connected to iron blocks as doorways. I'll hook 'em up to buttons so the resemble automatic sliding doors of sorts. I may even use stone pressure plates instead so I can walk right through. I'll also try making eleborate exterior defense systems. It'll be tough for me though, the most redstone I've ever done is wire the darkroom in my Dwarven fortress so i can turn the netherrack in the walls on whenever I want to go in.

Yea my first project would be a functional walker. I'd be happy to join ya in this endeavor

I'm building a valve for my mushroom farm to let water through, and also a cobblestone generator.

I was going to build an underground hall with some fountains, but then a lava spring coming out of the wall at one end and going into a pool. I'd use a piston to shut off the lava, then I could climb through a doorway in the wall behind it and go to the laver from the other side and set it off again. This'd probably have my boxes behind to avoid theft in PvP.
Wait, did I just say that out loud...

Don't worry, other then perhaps a moving door thing... I can't bend my head around how to use pistons at all ._.

i could probably have an awesome Lava Feature using pistons to regulate the flow.

Hmm, I wonder how hard it would be to make a house that retracts into the ground...
I think I'll try that - something similar to Tokyo-3, but on a smaller scale.

I love how 99% of these ideas can be done with what Craftbook already has. Elevator? Use a [Lift]. Auto-farm? use a [Door] or [Bridge].

I thought of that, but then I realized chests/furnaces/signs wouldn't be able to move, and it probably wouldn't be able to come back out again.
Then I thought of having an inpenetrable wall of Obsidian surround my house, but then I realized you can't push Obsidian either.
I also thought of having a dispenser pop out of the ground to drop items for people but you can't move dispensers either.
Damn you, tile entities!

had an idea, but the implementation of pistons would require much much more redstone, then if they would have implemented pistons right.

My God sir! You should patent that idea before some scoundrel steals that novel use of pistons off of you!

Got it on ssp. Made a self building/repairing house and bridge. The door system in the 1.7 video (btw theres a new awesome one.) but with a little lava moat in it and an automatic lava moat system

Exactly. And now you can do these things on SSP and on servers without Craft/Falsebook. And the servers without that plugin + the number of single player worlds > the number of servers with that plugin.

Pretty sure pistons can't move redstone elements. Just saying.

"If pistons push most "attached to a block” blocks such as levers, torches, redstone, etc., then they will be detached and drop as an item; however, rails can be moved by pistons, but will not retain their original orientations. "

So if you align it correctly, you can create a retractable minecart bridge.

I'm a bit skeptic whether to be excited or not of the piston possibility based on the pistons made by someone else other than Notch; But nontheless, that's pretty neat.
