My PC told me upgrading to windows 8.1 would be a good idea.
Now Civ 5 won't start (The "Choose a DirectX version" box pops up, no matter which one i choose Civ 5 just closes) Now NONE of my Steam games are launching!! and Google hasn't been much help...
I've tried validating game files for all the good that it does, most googlers are saying compatibility/admin mode doesn't help either.
Any ideas anyone?

What error message do you get when you try launching other games? They just don't work?
Try launching the actual .exe of one of your games in the steam folder, or moving your steam folder directory. If not... go reformat your HDD with Windows 7

This is probably an extremely dumb question... but is there any chance MS screwed up and installed a 32bit 8.1 over your 64bit Win8? Have any other programs suddenly stopped working after the update?

			Thanks for the help

. I found the answer in a bunch of "optional" updates that were for 8.1 support and Nvidia just came out with 8.1 supported drivers, after downloading all the things stuff started to work again.
