Magicka is an indie game being sold on Steam for the price of $9.99 USD. I've been curious about it since I heard first heard about it, but after reading this review on Kotaku (reprinted from Rock, Paper, Shotgun), I'm sold.

http://kotaku.com/5742768/spell-check-5 ... in-magicka

It sounds incredibly fun. I can just imagine all the gafaws that would be had playing it.

It's actually really fun once you get used to the controls.

It's surprisingly really fun when you get a group and mass chaos ensues from all the magic being thrown about. Lots of amusing deaths occur.

I died a lot but had a fun time doing so.

Well, I played the demo for about 20 minutes. HATED IT. From The Sims voice/language ripoff, to the instruction to cast Rain -using an 'element' that doesn't exist, and no directions on how to combine them to get it without constant trail and error-, and the final straw... A stupid goblin jumping up on me and proceeding to hump the back of my head and the game saying to "Break Free" with no direction whatever on how to do so.

You know you're a nerd when the word "magicka" instantly commands your undivided attention.

Yeah I'm still trying to figure out what that missing element is. And when something jumps on you, hit the space bar several times and you'll break free.

It's most fun in a full coop group.

The missing 'element' was either water and earth, or lightning and earth. Put up the one, then the earth, and it changes the symbol to that weird 'puff of wind' symbol. However, I still hated it.

the missing element is steam, and you get it by either water and then fire or ice and the fire (don't know right now). I play Magicka for about 20minutes and I find it quite funny.

It's fire and water in any order.

Ice is water and cold in any order (the other missing element).

Steam+cold = water
Ice+Fire=water

Cold+fire=nothing

Oh awesome!

Meteor Shower is pretty powerful. I know it would've came in handy in a lot of situations.

It's handy, it slows down time (player included) and gives you more time to cast the more difficult spells.

I found another good spell earlier, called "Raise Dead"...

Basically, it allows you to spam an army of zombies (4 or 5 every time you cast it)...

I kept wondering why they taught me the revive spell, when the skeletons weren't revivable, nor was the body I found. Just like with Rain, and the whole "It's really great for crops and lava". Of course, after I spent time trial and erroring on how to actually cast it - finally do cast it on some crops. What happens... NOTHING.

You should use it in multiplayer when you have other people in your party...
Especially if they're dead...

Just bought the game today; seems pretty fun but the multiplayer is fiddly. It crashes when I host, and most joinable games are either private or have high ping :(

I'll figure it out...

Well, I just finished the storyline in singleplayer...
Now I started over with all the spells and weapons I ended with...

I got it and had lots of fun... but now I'm stuck on chapter 5. I've tried to join online games but they're all full or locked. Oh well, eventually I shall cross that frozen stream, the trolls can't hold me back forever! (... well I suppose they can...)

You mean a frozen river with enemies (including armored orcs) coming at you and a troll with some kind of cannon at the end?
If that's the one, just melt the river under your enemies and let them drown, finish off any enemies who manage to cross anyway and fire your biggest laser at the troll...
