with this game Steam wanted to rip me off. it's 44,99€ on steam for me. while it is cost me 33,72€ when buying it on amazon.co.uk. Lesson learned: Steam isn't always the cheap option.

Steam has an unfortunate tendancy to screw european gamers by assuming that 1 euro = 1 dollar. Games on steam also seem to retain their launch price much longer than they would at retail.
Of course it's easy to forgive all that whenever one of their massive holiday sales rolls around.

If you buy the PS3 copy, then you get a free Steam copy, and there's cross-platform co-op between the PS3 and PC =]

Really, does that mean an Xbox can play with a PS3?

Shadowrun for the 360 and PC, the game allowed Cross platform game play between the 360 and the PC.

It did indeed. And that's why shadowrun is often held up as an example of why cross platform multiplayer doesn't work in a competitive enviroment. The xbox version was given generous aim assist, while PC player had to deal with increased weapon sway and recoil, and PC players still dominated. According to the developers even "mediocre" gamers equipped with a keyboard and mouse were able to beat the most experienced console gamers.
Cross platform play is certainly possible, but for anything other than co-op games it just leads to massive imbalance.

In my experience aim assist is actually really unhelpful - it often ends up becoming a fight to aim, what with me going in one direction and aim assist forcing me in another.

i meant in the case of Portal2. Shadowrun is another story... a story filled with woe, foldng dev's and massive popularity after they folded (odd that

)
