OOoohh I remember playing SNESS Super Metroid when I was between the ages of 10-13... Dear mother of Jebus! That game really kept me away from playing the console !

The music, the enviorment, the monster designs and attack patterns... EVIL I TELL YAH!

That's the ONLY game that I've played that really scared me... years later It's still creepy but in a fun

Abes Oddesy for the playstation 1. One of my first games, that game just sacred the crap out of me never beat it and its been over eleven years since i got it.

For some reason I found Resistance pretty scary when it first came out.

Also, Forbidden Siren when I was younger. I haven't played it since.

Minecraft.

When you're playing Single player, spelunking in a cave, and you hear footsteps... and they're not yours.

Resident Evil 3 was the first "scary" game I played, way back when it first came out. Most games don't really scare me anymore. The most recent thing that scared me is BioShock. Specificly the Houdini Splicer part at the first section of Arcadia. I was NOT expecting it. I follow him, he disappears, I see loot on a table, I am paying attention to picking it up, I look up and see a shadow on the wall, turn around and E-GAD! Mother of a piece of sh--!

Reminds me of a spot in Bioshock that spooked me.
I was in the medical section in the dentist office (I think it was a dentist office)
Anyways I was looking around and I saw a recording and a teddy bear, I picked up the recording and listened to it and picked up the teddy bear, when I went to turn around there was a splicer standing behind me waiting for me to turn around and in a fit of panic and "WTF!?" I tossed the bear at his face killing him XD

Quake 4.
I played it shortly after it came out, and it came out in 2005. I was 8 at the time. Just under half of the minimum age limit in the ESRB rating. Needless to say, it scared the life out of me.

Should play the prequel Quake 2 (Quake 2 and 4 are the only ones in the Quake series to have a constant story, unlike Quake 1 which has something to do with a Lovecraft god and 3 being a Arena based game)

I don't think it's technologically possible for me to play it. As computer games get outdated, updates to the computer they are played on could mess them up. I can barely play quake 3 - 90% of the time, when I start a game, it crashes. I think quake 2 would just not even start up for me.

I came across a mod called "quake2evolved" which seems upgrade the game so you can play it on windows 7.
Do a google for "Play Quake 2 on ____" and I am sure you will be able to find a solution.

I started playing video games on my fathers lap with the first Quake back when I was 4 or something... I didn't get anything except that i was supposed to hit Ctrl to shoot, as my dad set it as the shooting key... I loved it for some reason, just hitting that key when he told me too...

My point being, it didn't effect me until one day he bought Max Payne, when I was 6-7 years old, and in the first mission of that game there's a rape scene with his wife and his baby getting killed, which left me scared for a few months..

I was scared to sleep or walk around at night in the house... I remember being pretty traumatized for a few months...

My mother always thought there was something wrong with my dad letting me play with him at video games, but since I didn't get scared by Quake, he thought it was alright...

I think that game is the main reason why I just can't stand watching or playing a horror/scary game or movie... even now, being 18.

Don't get me wrong I love games like GTA or COD and thriller movies... just not horror.. nothing that shocks.. like resident evil...

Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time
When I would finally get the master sword, I'd walk out and see the ReDeads. Scared the hell outta me when they screamed at me. Oh and this was when I was around 5-7 years old. <_>

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Everyone's turn-to horror game, but it is bloody terrifying once you get into it.

Silent Hill 2.

It just gets in your head. The horror game at the same par as Amnesia except you have weapons.

A must for horror lovers.

But amnesia is more scarier as you DONT have any weapons ;_;

I used to be horrified of dark caves. As in it took me 2 hours to get out of the oblivion sewers at the start

no but in sh2 you can shoot at the bad guys and in amnesia you just gotta hide from them

Portal2

I play MC with the sound off most of the time, so I panic a lot when I turn around and a mob is right there. Also, I agree Resistance was quite scary in places. I still think the Chimera are the coolest looking alien race in all of gaming.

Other than that, I played a horror game once (don't remember the name, it involved zomies and being on a train) and had nightmares a week afterwards. Which is suprising for me becuase I haven't remembered a dream in years.

Amnesia.
I wasn't the same until I started watching Tobuscus play it, then I just lol'd whenever something scary happened.

When I was much younger, there was a game known as "Heretic" that used to bother me a bit. Mainly, it was similar to DooM, but the "Hell" aspect was emphasized. Graphics for the time were amazing and immersive, and it truly made me feel at times that I was surrounded by red eyed floating heads of hell.

Looking back, I'm so desensitized. I don't wince an eye, and it doesn't bother me one bit.

I have to admit playing "The Suffering" was a tad scary at times.

Was able to beat the game and I loved it, but some times I had to take a break before I could continue XD

i used to find minecraft awfully frightening.

I find it scary when I am about to lose on Total war: Shogun 2. But other then that, XD I'm not one for horror games.

Holy crap, I remember that scene. I was 16 and it still haunted me. However, I later came to the realization that his wife was not raped but "just" murdered because of her knowing about the background of Valkyr.

On topic:
Actually, most games scared me when I was younger. Which is weird because I enjoy spooky horror films... I think it's the dangerous environment and the possibility of getting killed that scared me.

But I think the first game that really got me shivering was Thief: The Dark Project. I was about 13 or 14 at the time it came out.
In the second level you're sent into this old mine. A few meters behind the entrance, I see this strange figure standing just outside the light of a torch. Barely lit, a bit hunched, partially obscured by vertical wooden planks. But what I can see is that it's not wearing regular clothes... and it's missing its jaw.
As I sneak closer, I realize this is a zombie, breathing heavily. My heart pumps. I'm scared crapless, for this is no guard I can just knock out. I try to sneak by, but I scrape its field of vision and I get mauled because my sword was apparently replaced with a slapstick-sized butterknife. I survived but was shaking like Jello on a tumble dryer.
Didn't touch that game for years, and only after I found cheats to it I played it through for completion's sake (definitely not worth it).

The first game to really scared me must have been F.E.A.R. I got it when I was 12-13 years old, played it in the middle of the night. Pretty much screamed through the entire game. and then the damn F.E.A.R. Extraction Point came out, another night with screams....
