While the discount on the download version is nice, why the the boxed PC version $60? It should be cheaper than the console version since they're not paying licencing fees.

Personally I don't see the point in pre orders, at least not from a consumer perspective, especially not for a digital download where they can't run out of stock.

Agreed, other than the initial cash flow, they've sold 1.5million pre-orders, around $80m gross, if I was a gaming company, I'd do it too
