Re: Fail virus experiences?
That's not really a virus, but BretLemon's sister fell for the thing and screwed over his computer.sag185 wrote:Just got a massive fail virus which was so obviously a virus it made me lol :L:L

Re: Fail virus experiences?
Oh man, have I got a story for this thread.
I was playing Yahoo chess or something like that, and someone in the chat was being a belligerent ass, and I was calling him out on it. He started blowing smoke about how he had gotten my IP and he was going to give me a boot sector virus to wipe everything out. Sure, sure, whatever, I'll call your bluff, right? I gave him more of a hassle and he invited me to reboot my computer.
It was then that I remembered that I had been doing some network troubleshooting earlier that day. I had been having trouble getting Civilization 3 to connect to multiplayer games over its specified ports. Part of my troubleshooting involved moving my computer to my router's DMZ, leaving it totally and utterly exposed to the internet.
I hadn't removed my computer from the DMZ.
My heart sank then.
Instant blue screen on startup, normal mode and safe mode.
Fortunately, it wasn't too hard a fix.

Re: Fail virus experiences?
YES, so many shall lol at this.
Well the family windows XP desktop computer didnt have any antivirus on it, so after years of web-surfing by everyone, it finally (and noticeably) swam up shit creek. 2 main viruses to take note were the virus that locked the 'change desktop background' setting and permanently changed the background to a black screen with the words "YOU HAVE A VIRUS" flashing rapidly on the screen. The second main virus was one that opened 50 internet explorer screens every 5 clicks.
Now for the fail: We downloaded a trial of Nortan anti-virus, the only 'virus' it ever found was IEsetup.exe
And now the kicker: We then bought CA antivirus and after about a full hour scan it come up with OVER 300 viruses, 30% at a high threat level...
To this day the background function is still locked (i think) a reminder to never leave our desktop un-guarded for to long.
Ironically our CA antivirus expired about a year ago
And short fail-virus was when i was talking to a friend on MSN when he suddenly sent a poorly-spelled-off-topic-message to a link to some myspace pictures of 'him' i asked him about it and we quickly realized it was a virus/spam link. 5 minutes later he says his brother got the same msn message and that he had clicked on it... >_>
this isnt really virus related but, a friend was once sent an email saying he had been caught pirating and that he had to pay a fine. much lolz were had at his expense.

Re: Fail virus experiences?
i think ive got the most virus fails...
at the last count i had 21 viruses all takin up space and slow my pc down.
There all still here and because of that, it takes me 30-45 minutes to even start up my computer.
Dont give me antivirus stuff because i never use it, hell if i did i would get worried cos i wouldnt have to 'press any key within the next ten seconds' during start up. At any rate i am saving up for alienware so i shant be worrying about them for too long and by now half the world probably has access to my stuff but meh
1 thing this does mean though is that i can rarely play multiplayer in games like supreme commander 2 because i have REALLY slow connection and the other players just exit whilst im loading. which is weird cos its fine when loaded...
Also dont be worried about getting any viruses from me. My father has put up a kind of reverse firewall that stops any viruses getting out. It works but if i want it to completely destroy a virus etc my pc just freezes. Completly
No one can beat that when it comes to fail Y_Y
