The Escapist and Extra Credits.

For those of you who do not know, Extra Credits recently announced that they have run their last episode on the escapist. This is a following the demand that Extra Credits give the Escapist 75% of the donation money for Allison (the teams animator) shoulder surgery. Also the Escapist owes a large amount of Extra Credits Salary. - or so is claimed by Extra Credits.

The reason i put this up is that many of our members are escapist members. So thus, this affects us deeply. Currently the site for the Escapist is being flooded with traffic. so i cant get a good forum thread up.

heres the Extra Credits facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ExtraCredits?sk=wall

If this is true, what now?

EDIT:

Sad, but there is always more than one side to the story. Please, do not slam the Escapist on here until we find out more info.

EC never particularly impressed me.

Business development manager indeed. This it what happens when you set up some crappy indie company and laud it over everyone.

That forum thread is hilarious. Don't people realize there's two sides to every story?

Nope, they would rather demonize the other side before making a logical and rational judgement.

I'm gonna go find my response to this when I saw it on Reddit:
From what it looks like so far, neitehr of them are dicks, just that neither of them were quite clear with what they understood the donations passed the point of paying for her surgery were for.
The Escapist thought that the funds were to further Extra Credits and pay off any owed-money from things to do with Extra Credits
James, I'm not quite sure about, he wasn't clear what the rest of the money was used for. I would speculate till more proof arises taht it was to back-pay debts incured, then possibly kept under savings.
Till I actually know what James used the rest of the money for (the surgery was a fraction of the cost of what was raised) and proof is presented about it.

Alex was quite objective in his information on the situation, while James relied on emotional appeal about how he wished to pay Alison's surgery and make up for the lack of pay (which doing the math still left nearly $60k "unused") in the near year they did EC.

We should know more when they release the emails, although if someone has info(and proof) on what the remaining money was used for, that'd be great.

While I understand The Escapists response (and I am pleased that both sides will provide more information later on their emails). I am disappointed by the manner that this has all come to light. Also that other content providers are not being paid on-time/fully may reveal more to this. Either way it is not putting The Escapists reputation in a good light, and I read the response and I didn't like the way where they hinted at suing EC for defamation. They will try to sweep these things under the carpet, they did that before when the site got attacked by Lulzsec earlier, they didn't even make ANY form of official response (I thought that event was pretty newsworthy - since it was in conjunction with the EVE Online attack + others)

You fail to realize how Anonymous works. They thrive on the pain they cause their targets. If a target does not react, Anon will get bored and move on to the next target. A reply, ANY reply, would only have encouraged them.

Anon is anonymous, no-one is really "Anon" as a group. They're not any specified amount of people. I believe it's correct that Lulzsec could be described as something of an "anon cell" that split off, giving them a persona as a definite group.

I stopped keeping track of this, but did the two sides patch their differences up? I can see a "This Week on Extra Credits" thing and refuse to actually watch it to see if things got happy again.

Unless what I'm seeing is their last thing.

Despite popular opinion, I'm taking the escapist side. According to them, EC promised to give the extra donation money surgery to the escapist. Instead, they spent it on themselves creating a company and then putting the escapist as the promise breaking villian.

Wait a second, your rooting for escapist because you see them as the villain? Ever thought of joining tyranids with that logic?

Read it more carefully. He says Extra Credits made the Escapist look like the villain in the situation.
