This topic applies to everyone, of all religions, beliefs, and ethnicities.. As some of you may know Hurricane Irene is hitting the United States.... The size of this hurricane is almost the size of Europe! I have family members that do live there, and many of you do as well... So if you would all, take a moment, and send your thoughts, and prayers to the families facing this Hurricane, and to hope, that the damage, is not that bad! Thank you.

Speaking of, looks like its heading right on top of my college where I'm staying.
And they said there's a chance of losing power for 10-15 days.
Lovely start to freshman year of college.

I'm so jealous we in SC aren't getting hit. I love hurricanes.
Hope those who are affected have Risk or something.

Irene's several hours away from brushing up against New Jersey, meanwhile I'm in my home in Philadelphia, PA (the city borders New Jersey) waiting for my power to go down or something....pretty tense stuff. In any case I'll just read my textbooks since I probably won't be returning to my campus for a while.

On a positive note, the hurricane passed by without causing a loss of power, it was just really windy earlier and drizzly.
A small branch fell down while I was on my way to the dining hall though, so watch out for them trees.

Something about those fatalities makes me think it was a bit more than 'windy and drizzly'...

Like Aenir_best Estimate Plus Uncertainties implied, it was the trees.

It's always the trees:

On a serious note, hopefully everyone affected by Irene is making it through ok.

I was specifically referring to my personal experience with it. Obviously it's different in other places.
On that note, my parents lost power for a week.
Edit: Oldest brother just lost power in his apartment.
