Re: Getting in shape
Yeah... I try and stay "in shape" but really never happends xD
I do some push ups and stuff but meh, and I hate sports xD
BUT, I play golf (like ones a year, just to get drunk on the field xD yeah thats how we play it in Norway)
The sports for classy men And last time I checked I could hit the ball about 400++ meter or something, thats something, right?
and yeah, I'm not weak, after a lot of sumer vacations with helping building and chooping wood, I have thanks to that gotten a great deal of strength and stamina

Coming up on 6 months now. Anybody still going?
I slacked off a little when term started again, but I've been staying on track for the most part. Still can't make it past 100 push ups though.

I work out. And eat peanuts, massive amounts of peanuts, and drink milk. Not so much milk. Usually water.
I've gone from a skinny whale to a fairly beefy whale.

Also. Been ending up getting up unusually early past few mornings, so have been working out to pass the time. Nothing specific, Just like some sit ups and push ups or a morning run.

Re: Getting in shape
Has anyone ever tried handstand push ups? I had a go this morning and managed 15. No idea if that's a good amount or not, but they're an interesting alternative to regular push ups (which I've gotten quite sick of after 7 months). Shame I can't hold my balance long enough to do them without leaning against a wall.
My cardio still sucks by the way. The lift in my block is out of order and the 8 flights of stairs are enough to get me out of breath.

Nope, but I do clapping push-ups, which actually serve as a way of making me laugh.
Handstand push ups sound interesting if I wasn't worried about falling and dying.

Re: Getting in shape
Handstand pushups are really good, work different muscles to normal pressups, and its harder, do them at gymnastics. :3

Re: Getting in shape
I have a new goal: to learn to do a planche/planche push up. Basically it's just the push up position but with your legs entirely off the floor.
It's... tricky.
...Very tricky.
I fully expect it to take a while, (assuming I succeed at all,) but I always work better with a goal in mind and this is about as high as I can realistically set the bar.

Re: Getting in shape
Being in the delayed-entry program(DEP) of the Navy, basically this is waiting to ship and helping you be ready for when you do, I have PT Tuesdays and Thursdays, that pretty much kills me every time, but I have been being less-killed because of it. As one of the Petty Officers asked us at a meeting, "Doesn't it feel good when you make it to the end, and you reached a new level you never thought there was before? Isn't it amazing what the body can do when the mind doesn't let it quit?" Inspires me every time. I like that new level, and feeling badarse for making it through.
Re: Getting in shape
Success! It's taken over a year (not helped by my occasional prolonged lapses) but I can finally do 100 consecutive push ups relatively comfortably (which is to say not reduced to an aching mass, unable to lift my arms for the next few days, which is what it was like before).
In other news I'm now able to do a tucked planche. I can't hold it for as long as I'd like to able to however, and there's no chance of me managing it with legs outstretched anytime soon. Still, progress is progress.

Re: Getting in shape
Very nice, I should give 100 push ups a go.
You should try your hand at a "Muscle up". It's pretty much a pull up, but you keep going until your arms are fully extended holding yourself over the bar.

Re: Getting in shape
Today, I broke and decided to join in.
Weight for me has never been a problem as I'm 6'3" and 150 pounds. Basically I'm a twig.
Now, the thing I've been running into regarding pushups is that after I get to about ten in a row, it feels like there's a lot of pressure on my face to the point I need to stop, stand up for a few seconds, and then continue once more. Rinse and repeat.
It's really annoying.

Breathe deeper. That is the blood rushing to your face, so if you are doing pushups in such a way that you are upside down, don't
Re: Getting in shape
What's wrong with upside down push ups? Great for your shoulders and back.

Re: Getting in shape
In regard to the not being upside down while doing pushups, it's actually considered "cheating" if you are looking down or underneath you while doing pushups. You want to make sure you are looking straight forwards and have a perfectly flat back. I used to have a lot of trouble with pushups, but after going to a personal trainer for a couple summers and playing Rep soccer, they've become the least of my worries. This is a really great thread for gamers like us, encouraging us to get in shape. If I had seen this before going to the gym I would have been so excited to join in .
With saying this, I am very in shape and have a BMI of 19.2. I'm not much of an upper body person, and all my muscle is lean muscle, so I could never do 100 pushups. However, I can do squats endlessly. I mean almost literally, I don't have a single problem with any squats, and my trainer always tells me that I go too far down.
Good luck everybody with getting in shape, or keeping up your shape. But remember, once you're in shape, you feel so good that when you start getting a bit out of shape again you feel like absolute crap. I had it happen once and went out and worked out for a month until I was back in shape. It's an amazing feeling, and shouldn't be taken lightly.

People say practice makes perfect. They also say that nobody is perfect. So I say, why practice?
Re: Getting in shape
Last week we started soccer workouts and I have to say I am out of shape but thankfully, not nearly as bad as I expected. The workouts we did today though were by far the worst. I was recovering from the flu still (so lots of coughing and an annoyingly runny nose). This, and 45 degree (Fahrenheit) weather seriously contributed to the day. What we did however was about 45 minutes worth of sprints. They were either across the soccer field, up and down a hill with tall grass, suicides, and then we back pedaled up a hill as well. It was very hard, but this will get you in shape fast, I feel better already.

Re: Getting in shape
I'm in Navy shape now suckers. combined from my two best pt tests, 70 pushups, 72 situps 12 minute 1.5 mile.
And the pushups and situps you have to do in one go, you have 2 minutes to do as many as you can(or if you are smart and not the best runner, enough to pass by a nice margin). And also, when I got to basic, i was a nearly 16 minute 1 1/2, big improvements.
Feel free to ask anything about Navy workouts, but be warned that the "official" navy workout is designed to be given to people who can barely muster out double digits
