The nuking of New Central in Version 2. We took a backup of the server right before we released version 3, and gave everyone TNT in the city, of course most clients crashed soon after all of the TNT started going off, but it was glorious.asi1998 wrote:What is your best or favorite experience you have ever had on Escpaecraft alone?

Don't be a dick, which means, be respectful of people, treat others as you want to be treated. There are many religious roots in a few of those sayings and I'm not a religious person, but I do believe in good morals and being a person with good morals. We have too many dicks on this planet, too many politicians running things and too many people only thinking of themselves and our society as a whole sucks because of it.Wildwill002 wrote:Views on life?

Nope! I joined right around the first anniversary, and didn't start becoming active on the forums until a long time afterward
Re: AMA - wokka version
I originally offered to host because the server was crashing everyday, I liked the people running it and the community, and was tired of the down time. I knew I could the server backend better, and it was good timing, because Rem had stopped playing and was obviously not interested in helping anymore.Serubin323 wrote:Why did you decided to offer your services to Escapecraft? I had no idea it would grow like it did, but I'm glad it did.
It was assigned to me back in 1987 or so by a couple of classmates, and to this day, only a few people know the true meaning behind it.motormaniac wrote:If this has already been asked tell me, but how did you come up with the name wokka?

1. So with the new Minecraft updates looking to modify the Nether are you going you going to retire the old one and generate a new one with boarders? Since the nether fortresses are only going to be need for the blaze spawners and nether skeletons and not Nether blocks. I know this will reset everyone’s nether portal but small price to pay if the buildings for the old Nether can be moved to the new Nether. Also if a new Nether is built will it’s spawn point be city/town built like the other worlds since the other Nether’s spawn point looks like blackadder51 had a party.
2. With the adding of new things like the mob witch and probably new blocks and mobs in the future. Has thought gone in to generating a new limited world and attaching it to one of the 3 existing worlds so that whole new world does not have to be added? I figure that should not hurt the server resources as much as adding a whole new world plus it might rejuvenate an older one.
3. What do you think of the concept that the Minecraft community will be the ones updating and carrying Minecraft on into the future once API support has been added because the Minecraft team is running out of ideas to implement themselves. Also what would you like to see added or changed? I personal think they dropped the ball on the mine carts and could have made the mine cart system better and more efficient.

Excellent questions Dandres! This is the type of stuff I think most players want to see, not my favorites of things. Also, I'm ignoring Invun in these posts from now on...
It really boils down to resources, server and staff. Whenever a patch comes out, the players of course want us to get the patch out as quickly as possible, so that they can play with all of the new additions, but balancing those new features with an update and what we can do with the server is tough, especially when the update needs new terrain.
I don't have all of the answers, but our team does have 2 and half years of experience and we've learned a lot, because you do learn from your mistakes, but you also learn from your victories too. I hope you and the other players like the planned changes we have coming
Thanks again Dandres!
We do have a few ideas on what to do for short term as well as long term for this. I think the design team behind Mojang expect people to delete worlds and regenerate/start new ones for this type of update, something that we have not done since we started Version 3 in Dec 2010. Rest assured, plans are in progress and info should be given out soon.dandres wrote:1. This is what we have done in the past, and how we came about with West Fyra as well as Borjan. With Tolteca, we gambled a bit and tried some new things, hoping to resolve some long term problems with growth, but it backfired on us. We tried to hurry some drastic changes that didn't work out and in the long run, we are worse off than we were. This is something we are trying desperately to resolve, long term, and not just get new updates for the game live so people can play.dandres wrote:2. Well, they dropped the ball on a lot of things, and while the API system does sound good, we've been hearing about it in one form or another for 2 years. When it comes out, it will cause a lot of problems for server admins, and we'll be patient and adapt as we can. That's all we can do.dandres wrote:3.
