Why does Rockstar hate the PC?
Why does Rockstar hate the PC?
Okay... we're all familiar with Rockstar. They're behind the GTA games, which have been widely popular. What I want to know is why does Rockstar hate PCs so much? GTA IV was only released on PC seven months after it had been released on xbox and ps. Read Dead Redemption still isn't released released yet for PC, and it's been 10 months since it came out for PS and Xbox.
I don't own any consoles, and RDR is the only title that has tempted me to even consider buying a console. And now I find an article on The Escapist about a new Rockstar title called LA Noire (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... Characters). It looks incredibly interesting to me - it could fall anywhere from unparalleled fun to ridiculously demanding and arbitrary depending apparently on how well you would do if you were Cal Lightman (read the article, and then look up the tv series Lie to Me, if you're not familiar with this reference.)
I get it that PCs are harder to develop for, especially considering the huge number of hardware options; and that most console games sell for at least 20% more than the comparable pc release price ($50 to $60, thought that gap has started to close recently); but darn it... still seems like they are ignoring a huge segment of the market.

Edit: OT Now.
i think it's because a fair portion of gamer's with PCs also have Consoles, so consoles have a wider audience compared to PC only gamers.

well, I don't want 'em to release only for PC - just spread the love around a little.

but anyway, the real reason they don't release it on the PC is because they know they cant match minecraft, so why even try.

Re: Why does Rockstar hate the PC?
There's no simple answer, though ease of piracy is certainly one of the major contributing factors. If I had to pinpoint when PC gaming started to decline, I would say that the rise of the graphics card would have been the start of it all. Up to the point where 3D accelerators (the precursors to today's discrete graphics cards) came out, pretty much every relatively recent computer on the market could play any game, assuming your processor could keep up. Once graphics cards came on the scene, however, PC gaming became a much more expensive proposition due to the additional cost of the hardware.
The other issue is how much harder it is for a layman to get a PC game running. With a console, you can pretty much hook up the console, throw in the disc, and away you go (well, at least with the XBox). On a PC, you have to install the game (which can sometimes take 15 minutes or more), probably find and download a patch, update your graphics drivers, make a sacrifice to the dark gods, and possibly locate the holy grail. Even then, the game may still throw out some bizarre hex code of an error message and fail to run. This limits the PC games market to those with some level of technical expertise (which is probably why simple-to-use casual games have taken off).
And oh, look. MovieBob (who I am NOT, for the last goddamn time) just put up a video on this very subject: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/ ... -PC-Gaming
