Hey everyone, thought I'd share. Won't do anything for block lag, but I was tired of getting glitched graphics (falling sand, gravel, hovering spasmodically in the air; black screens; low fps with lots of sprites, etc.) and so I did some research and found that for me, installing the beta version of the next Java RE (7b134) improved things dramatically. To wit, while before I couldn't run a texture pack higher than 32x32 on SMP without getting really low fps, I am now running "LB Photo Realism," (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic ... 1&t=136785), a 256x256 texture pack with zero slowdown. I mined IC for a couple hours tonight without getting a single black screen.
It might be worth it if you too are having these annoyances to go ahead and try it out. The download links for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows, Linux, and Solaris (Minecraft on a Solaris machine...) are at the following URL -- sorry, no beta for the Mac yet. If you are running a 64-bit OS, be sure to download and install BOTH the 32-bit and 64-bit binaries; 32-bit OSes, just the 32-bit one.

If for some reason it doesn't work/makes things worse, just uninstall it and go to java.com to get the stable 6u24 release.

I'm glad you share this with our community to better improve our expirience. I would LOVE to install this but I'm 101% derp when it comes to installing things without knowing what the blazes it is.
From my understanding, it's a Beta Java with potential and there's a few downloads to "pick from"
Now, that being said, how do I know what sort-of-download my Dell/Windows7 Laptop should I download ? I don't know what this about "32bit" or "64bit" download is.
Could you tell me how I find out which one I could download ?
Aaaaappreciated.

Sure! This works with both Windows 7/Vista, and the XP steps are very similar.Zinrius wrote:Now, that being said, how do I know what sort-of-download my Dell/Windows7 Laptop should I download ? I don't know what this about "32bit" or "64bit" download is.

Open an Explorer window (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer). In the window pane on the left, there will be a list of directories. Find the one labeled "Computer" with the icon of a monitor, right click on it, and select "Properties." From there, you can see if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system:
Once you know which one you have, you can download and install the correct JRE file.
If your machine is 64-bit like mine, you will install *BOTH* the 64-bit and 32-bit executable. If it says "32-bit," you will install the 32-bit EXE only. For 64-bit systems, Sun Microsystems doesn't say there's an order to installation, but I recommend installing 32-bit first followed by 64-bit.
Just click the blue link labeled "EXE" next to the "Windows" or "Windows x64" (and under the heading "JRE") title to download the installer(s).
Installation is straightforward -- just run the program(s) you downloaded, and Java takes care of the rest, updating files as necessary.
Let me know if you need anything cleared up.

Wow fantastic! You have no idea how flattered I am you took your time to explain this to me and post pictures!!!! Thanks!
Suppose I get home and find out mine's 64 bit.
I have to download both 32 and 64 bit.
Is there a specific order in which I must install these ? or just whatever ?

Ah, forgot to mention that in my post. Will fix. Sun doesn't say either way, but I recommend 32-bit first followed by 64-bit.Zinrius wrote:Is there a specific order in which I must install these ? or just whatever ?
And you're welcome. ^_^
