What got you to start playing Minecraft?

for me I had heard about it and seen some stuff and I thought it looked stupid.
then one day I saw this youtube video


and being the architectural type who would still play legos today if it was socially acceptable I decided to try out the free version online. twenty minutes later I bought the game and have been hooked since. my gf had a two week work trip the day after I bought the game and I basically spent every waking hour drinking beer and building shit in mc. it was the most epic two weeks ever.

I was talking to someone from another forum. They told me about it, and gave me a link to SeaNanner's let's play. At first, I thought, this looks pretty horrible. But then, a minute or two in, I realised how amazing it was. I bought the game a day or two later.

A kid on my bus talked about it, I tried classic, asked people on a classic server about it, and bought it.

One of the the Let's Players i subscribe to on youtube played it, and it looked fun.

Then the other forums that i go to regularly, where a lot of people played this, said that MC was having a free weekend, because MC.net was down. I downloaded it, had fun. A week later i bought it because I wanted to try multiplayer. I picked this server because I saw a topic in my forums about it.

Someone had posted a thread on the Escapist about a year ago from now on small games you could waste time on. Someone posted a link to Minecraft, which I checked out.

Lol I got lucky, apparently it turned into this huge friggin thing.

Hagrid had it and was playing it. He thought I wouldn't like it because there's no story at all, but I was interested so he showed me some stuff. Seemed interesting enough, but then he also showed me Escapecraft, which at that time was pretty young and was still an IP address you had to type in. I liked the cooperative nature of it and wanted to join, so I bought Minecraft pretty soon after and joined up.

LoadingReadyRun talked about it, I YouTube'd it, looked interesting, bought it when I could, but couldn't play it on my old computer. Had to buy a new computer just to play it. Played it for a bit, checked out the Escapist server (was abandoned), saw some sign in the Escapist server that said Escapecraft was better, so came over here.

I kept seeing news post after news post on the escapist about Minecraft and I figured it if was getting this much attention I HAD to check it out. I didn;t even give the free trial a check I just bought it straight out and started playing to see what all the fuss was about.

Instantaneous engrossment.

Also, one of the best 15 bucks ever spent on.. well anything.

i found minecraft by just searching "cool game" on Google, and minecraft came up. when i got on the site i saw a video of a minecraft roller coaster notch made. i thought it was cool, but not cool enough to buy. but i started playing creative. and right after i started playing creative notch decided to have a free alpha week. after a day of playing. i had to buy it because it was the best game i have ever played. and after a week i made a 2000 block long railway to a bunch of mountains i named lionheart mountains. (this was before i played this server.)

some children where playing it on school and i tought it was dumb, than a friend started playing and i started to make fun of him but he kept talking on and on about it and then showed me a wooden castle wih he later burned to the ground per mistake, tried it after and played it ever since

Some guy I'm subscribed to on Youtube (zXNoRegretzzXz) started uploading Portal 2 and Minecraft Let's Play videos. I started watching them and thought the game was worth playing myself...and so I've been since.
