That's a pretty good feat, I can do about 50. Unfortunately, I found little time to do these.Jake55778 wrote:Yay I can finally do 100 push ups consecutively without breaks.

My new work as a park ranger insures me plenty of exercise as well as fresh air and plenty of sun.
My body was not prepared.

Re: Getting in shape
I'm a little late but this seems like a great idea! I'll be lucky if I can do 20 push ups. I'm not a big upper body guy.
It needs to be about, 20% cooler.

I could barely do 20 at a time when I started. Just keep at it for a few weeks and it gets a lot easier.

Re: Getting in shape
It's been about 2 and a half months now of doing 100 push ups a day. I feel like my progress has slowed, the push ups aren't getting easier the way they were initially; I'm still doing them in sets of 50 (I can do 100 but it's exhausting). It just feels like I've reached a plateau.
So, what should I be doing to push past this? Should I focus on doing more sets each day? Longer sets? A broader range of exersizes? (I already do sit ups and occational pull ups, but push up have been my main focus.) Try adding weights or wearing a backpack? Or should I just keep doing what I'm doing?

Re: Getting in shape
Yes, add weights in a backpack for pushups, and/or try inclined ones if you haven't. But maybe not the same time till you have it down.Jake55778 wrote:It's been about 2 and a half months now of doing 100 push ups a day. Also, add running/swimming/biking in. Pick one or more, and do it. If you haven't already.

Re: Getting in shape
I get pretty out of breath when I run up my basement stairs, so what exercise would someone suggest that a fat kid like me do? (I'm pretty out of shape. I also can't do 3 push ups in a row.)

Re: Getting in shape
I've gotten skinnier. Must be the fact that I spent three weeks working every morning and that I skip lunch because of irregular sleep.

My advice is for you to age first.Fuzz422365117 wrote:I get pretty out of breath when I run up my basement stairs, so what exercise would someone suggest that a fat kid like me do? (I'm pretty out of shape. I also can't do 3 push ups in a row.)
And to Jake: how about regularly trying 75 in a row? Also crunches.

Re: Getting in shape
You're going to hate this: Cardio workouts. Walk (Briskly), run (If you can), swim, ride a bicycle, row a boat, anything to get your heart rate up. Aim for at least an hour a day. (I know, it cuts into your MC time ) You want to be going at a pace where you can still talk, but not without a bit of effort. One thing that will really help is if you can find a workout buddy or two, as it decreases the chance that all of you will be demotivated at the same time. Just make sure that you all share the same goals...Fuzz422365117 wrote:I get pretty out of breath when I run up my basement stairs, so what exercise would someone suggest that a fat kid like me do? While you're at it, do the pushups & crunches, as many as you can. You may only manage 2 or 3 now, but you will find that number increases.

Re: Getting in shape
I guess I can try to go up to my neighborhood's pool a few times a week and swim laps. And I guess I could ride my bike there... Maybe 4 times a week?
Re: Getting in shape
Sounds good Fuzz. Swimming is one of the best cardios and you won't even feel the sweat cause you'll be in a nice pool. I am jealous. I have to run or bike through the humid hot-days of my town right now.

Re: Getting in shape
That reminds me, I'm going on a biking trip in a few weeks to the Kaydee Trail (I think that's how you spell it). That will give me a nice workout.

Re: Getting in shape
It's a nice ride on the Katy Trail. Being an old railbed, the grades are all quite manageable, and the packed gravel is fairly easy to roll on. I can't recommend skinny tires, though.Fuzz422365117 wrote:That reminds me, I'm going on a biking trip in a few weeks to the Kaydee Trail (I think that's how you spell it). Sit ups aren't quite efficient as laying down and lifting your legs (I don't know what they're called)Jake55778 wrote:It's been about 2 and a half months now of doing 100 push ups a day. As for push ups, there are so many different ways to do them. You can:
Do one handed
Put your hands far apart/close together
Put your hands in line with your hips
Do them slowly
Clap every time you press up
Put your fist on the floor instead of palms
Use 5,4,3,2,1 fingers
Just keep experimenting on how you can do your push ups.
Re: Getting in shape
I had a link a while ago that talked about those. They are generally called 6 inches, because that is about the space from the floor that is recommended to lift your feet to. There are other names I am sure. Just Google 6 inches workout and I'm sure something good will come upojamamask wrote:Sit ups aren't quite efficient as laying down and lifting your legs (I don't know what they're called)Jake55778 wrote:It's been about 2 and a half months now of doing 100 push ups a day. And for pushups, I want to add the diamond pushup, hands together under you and let your pointer and thumb meet and make a diamond/triangle with your hand. It works a different part of your chest and works your arms differently. They are harder though than normal pushups.
