Temptations

It's old but gold. If it could help you out we've probably chucked it in here.

Temptations

Post by xidontcarex » 20 Jul 2011, 04:48

So since my house in the freebuild world has been griefed over 5times, i was thinking
i should make a big house out of TnT where my old house use to be and then place a very obvious switch outside with a sign that saids "DONT PRESS"

and instead of the TNT exploding it could be just a simple drop trap into a lava pit XP,
how does that sound?

it would hopefully make the griefers learn their lesson :P
too bad pistons dont work, otherwise the drop trap can be easily wired and replaced

should i do this? or would it be a total waste of time? since it might be kind of obvious that its a trap XP

He is talking about the new player build, it's called the Freebuild place (this place is in Fyra)

And I like the idea xD But, put the house away so it can't do any harm to any other structures if it get set off.
And the sign should say "Don't Press, You will die" they will still press it, but they have been warned.

heres the thing, i thought tnt nowadays can only be set off by redstone+a power source? since i dont think any vets would take the time to grief i think it should be fine right? XP

and if all else fails, ill just cuboid the house but not the trap

Vallorn and I discovered that if you stand on top of the soulsand when you power it, and there's a one-block space between it and the ground, you'll fall in and suffocate.

It's fun.

Perhaps he meant netherrack.

But as I said in-game, just a lever attached directly to the TNT would be enough to set it off.

It's illegal to cause the death of players outside of PVP, unless the player is completely informed of the danger. Instances of areas that are non-pvp where someone may die, and it's allowed are, Wokka's maze - where he clearly states that you could die; as well as my "Test of Valor" where it says the same thing.

Basically, planting random booby traps is not allowed. But if you were to fence in the area and put up a bunch of signs saying something like, if you enter this building you could possibly die... then it would be alright in my opinion. You gave players sufficient warning.

However, wiring up an area with tnt (or any other method of killing someone) and just putting up a sign saying, "Don't press" - would not be allowed.

Edited for clarity in the first paragraph

As long as the signs are all clearly visible... Yep. Stupidity has its own rewards. So if they read signs saying "Push this and you will die" and they push it. Fine by me.

yes it was :D if you want the explanation for why this works is in the Spoiler
Spoiler! :
when you stand on Soulsand you sink slightly into the block.
this is because the Hitbox for the block is slightly smaller than the block itself.
when it is shifted into Glowstone the Hitbox expands.
this means the Hitbox is now above your feet and so you fall and actually now that blocks push you out this may no longer work.

As long as they are cognizant that death is a real possiblity, it's fine. The point is that you can't randomly place hidden stuff that can cause the death of a player. The player MUST be aware that proceeding forward, or doing a certain action, can lead to their death. Then it's own their own hands if they continue.

And no - this doesn't mean you can just put signs up saying, "Crossing my boundaries and you can die." Nothing that oblique. But if it's a sign on a door saying, "Entering this room and you may die" - that's fine. You've clearly labelled a localized area of danger. Same goes for a building like Wokka's maze, or my Test (which I really need to move to Enigma and open up sometime).

You underestimate the number of people who can't resist pushing a button, even when told they will die.
