Spore
Just wondering if anyone ever got into Spore, or if you still play it sometimes. Sure, the game itself sucked, but messing about in the editor is always fun and I tend to like creative games. (Hence, Minecraft.)

Re: Spore
I like the cell stage and creating creatures in the cell and creature stages. The Civilization stage is OK, but I find that the tribal stage is just boring. And the fact that you can't adjust the controls is an oversight on their part.
For the space stage, I find that spice is produced too slowly at the start and that everything is overpriced no matter where you go. And the way you view the galaxy can make it very difficult to find a system and even just move around. Stars that look like they are right beside you are 6 parsecs away, and a star that is way outside of your movement range is just 2 parsecs.

Re: Spore
People still "play" it if by play you mean create things in it. Everyone pretty much unaminimously knows the actual gameplay is bad. I sill hop on somtimes to make a creature, mech, ship, or whatnot.

Re: Spore
I tried playing it a few days ago. Every two hours, if I'm in the creature age it'll give me an exception and I'll lose everything that was unsaved. Now I'm stuck at the beginning of the tribal stage because I'm unwilling to play that part.Sti_Jo_Lew wrote:People still "play" it if by play you mean create things in it. Re: Spore
I got it and played it for a while, it was what i consider a 'broken promise' as the sneak peeks of the game in progress were much better than the actual game. The original cell stage looked bad-ass whereas the end product has just been desensitized and made just soft for young children that probably dont understand what the game is about. I even got the cute and creepy pack and it seemed completely unconnected to the game. Spiky insect legs on a completely smooth body? Wtf? The galactic adventures was alright i guess but only got me interested for in total about 20 hours at a stretch. Darkspore is a much more interesting prospect and is sort of where i thought the original game might've gone. If you've read this far your awesome. In conclusion, the in progress aspect of the game was best but they tried to claw back some respect after the 'cuteness' of spore with the expansion packs
Spoiler! :
Re: Spore
Yeah, the 'cuteness' is another issue. They made aliens that want to give you CAKE! Didn't they have any better ideas for dialogue? The people they tried to make the game target are the ones who are too young to understand what they're doing. That's why you should NEVER log on to the network. It will download vulgar and just stupid things into your worlds.Wildwill002 wrote: In conclusion, the in progress aspect of the game was best but they tried to claw back some respect after the 'cuteness' of spore with the expansion packs

Re: Spore
Yeah, the demo they showed that one time was easily 10 times better than what we have now. I'll try getting a screenie of one of my creatures to put up btw. Turned out pretty cool, and now I'm using it as model to do character designs from.

Re: Spore
Easily the demo. The release was trying too hard to be kid-friendly, and instead ended up looking like a preschooler's game.

Re: Spore
I loved spore up until Civ mode. Didn't like it.
All in all, the individual modes were too short, but it's got a great content editor.
It's kind of how nobody would come running to Minecraft right now because of the world design or combat system.

Re: Spore
Granted the editor was very good. Other games like the Kerbal Space program (free btw) are using it to great effect

I'll have to look up that Kerbal Space program thing. Hopefully I can put my creations to good use.

I actually enjoyed Spore.
In fact, I think I might dig it up and install it again...

"He's like fire, and ice, and rage.
He's like the night, and the storm in the heart of the sun.
He's ancient and forever.
He burns at the centre of time and he can see the turn of the universe.
And... he's wonderful."
