Skyrim - Your Character

Post by Someguy42 » 08 Aug 2011, 05:31

So I saw a couple threads that ask what your character is going to be and thought we should have one as well. There were some pretty interesting ones and some had some good stories of how they ended up in skyrim and why they are being executed. I want to start off with my guy and I hope to see some interesting characters.

Name: Stalke (I am just called Stalke, no sirname...)
Race: Nord
Gender: Male
Age: Young 20's
Combat Style: Paladin (Warrior that uses healing spells) + a bit of bow
Story: He is the descendant of the Champion of Cyrodiil. His parents were trolled to death by trolls and was raised as an stableboy under the Knights of the Nine. He was also taught the arts of the blade and bow while also having a potential for healing spells. The moment he turned 18 the Knights took him on as an apprentice. Shortly after he was knighted, the Knights were assaulted by a large group of Necromancers. Stalke had managed to escape by hiding in the armory. The stairs were raised up so the Necromancers could not find anything. When Stalke got out he found all the Knights dead. He cursed himself for his foolishness and sweared revenge. He soon found that the Necromancer's headquarters were in Skyrim and prepared him self to raid their headquarters. While on the borders of Skyrim he was knocked unconscious by a group of bandits. When he came to he found the bodies of nobleman next to him and there was blood on his sword. Stalke had suffered from amnesia so he had no idea what was going on. Seconds later a guard patrol came by and saw the scene. They accused Stalke of murder and escorted him to to his execution when...

Skyrim will decide on the rest of this story :)

Edit: Changed how his parents died xD

I've never been that big into roleplaying. At least not in the sense of creating elaborate backstories for my characters.

Name: *Generic fantasy name to be decided at the time* (To create the perfect fantasy name; mash keyboard until you have 5+ syllables. Then insert vowels until pronouncable.)
Race: Probably a high elf
Gender: Whichever the default is
Age: Whatever the random face generator decides
Combat style: Now here's where I actually invest some thought. My first instinct is always to go for a straight up mage type. However in my subsequent playthroughs of Oblivion I've tried opting for a mage/stealth hybrid using spells like unlock and invisibility to compliment general thief skills. As much as I love archery, it's not particularly viable in Oblivion, and unless Skyrim has seen an overhaul I'll probably be avoiding it there too. I'm sad to hear that they took out hand to hand combat as a major skill, I would have loved to play as the badass who punches dragons to death.
Story: Amnesiac mage who kills rats with fire.
The staff here are all trolls

Okay, sorry, stop, please, for the love of Azura xD (I'm not going to tell you how to make your story for your character, I'm just saying how to make it good ;) )

Okay, your story, your the descendant of the Champion Of Cyrodill. Your parents died in the Oblivion Crisis. You where raised by the Knight if the Nine. Then you kill off all the Knights.

Okay first of, you are now implying that The Champion got a child, then your saying the Champion died under the Oblivion Crisis, by that altering the lore, and then you are saying that your parents where killed in the Oblivion Crisis, and as you said, you begin Skyrim at the age of 20, that would mean that the oblivion crisis happend about 0-20 years before Skyrim's story begins.... but the oblvion crisis happend approximately 200 years before the story of skyrim begins... I can sense a dilemma here.

And then you say you where raised by the Knight of the Nine, this part I can say is okay, but really, you used only 2-3 years to get knighted?
But then to get a drive for your character you kill off all the Knights of the nine, alterting lore YET again. (And here the Champion of Cyrodiil used so much time and effort to found a new Knight of the Nine :( )

Then I guess the last part about revenge is okay, and knocked out by some bandits and ladi da dadi da prison is pretty much okay :D

EDIT: I'm going to look over for typos and stuff later on, for stuff I might have derped when I wrote this, as I can barly keep my eyes up xD

i shall be Shard who was named after the great Dunmer champion of Morrowind who concoured the reborn Dagoth Ur and broke the enchantments on the Heart of Lorkan.

apart from the name he is not related in any way to this ancient hero... or so he thinks... 8-)

Race: Argonian, as I always am.
Gender: Male
Age: Probably around the 30s
Appearance: As dark as possible, with blood red markings. Also, Will try to make the face look as animalistic as possible

Playstyle: Probably a sort of fast swordsman, who is good at sneaking around, unlocking stuff, and uses light armor. Will probably get a bow too, so I have some versitility. I'll focus on just moving around and evading, and won't use shields and opt for duel short swords. Unless you can equip two shields at once. That would be cool.

Also, I'm learning the "shout" to breath fire ASAP. Then I'll find a mod to give my Argonian wings.

I tend to go with two possible characters.

Race: Nord
Gender: Male
Name: Guy Garret
Age: 25
Appearance: Medium Build with good set of muscle (Though not a mountain or anything). Fair skinned with blonde hair and a short beard.
Play Style: Tends to play as a Knight of sorts or in the very least a Fighter on the good side of the law. Though not noble in blood he wants to help whenever he can.

Race: Bosmer
Gender: Male
Name: Milo Windby
Age: Silly elf ages =p
Appearance: Small and sleek, able to get places others cant. Fair skinned with dark brown hair, sometimes has a chin strap beard.
Play Style: Treasure Hunter... Will also work for the thieves guild (But of course... they don't really exist, right?)
Not Evil or cruel... but is a bit of a rebel (lol, Chaotic Good).

Sometimes I feel the need to play a magic character as well.
Though this can either be Breton or Altmer and can vary depending. Though the common theme when playing an elf is I go by the name Ruaro and use Red hair.

Btw, as a little note you guys when you pick the age of your character, there are somethings you should be a little ups about, as the age tells A LOT about a character in TES.

  • Orsimer only live to 40 (or was it 60?) at best. The curse that Arkay tried to smack onto the nords got tossed to the orsimer, as they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • Khajiit....I'd say it depends on the form, but I'd gander the Ohmes variety to live roughly the same as humans, and the Manes living as long as mer.

As for the big three, I'd say bosmer live the shortest, followed by dunmer, and altmer by 100-200 years, due to their hardened desire for genetic purity and phynmaster's aerobic programs.
As a btw here, regular dunmer should live about 120-200 years, so you can figure out the bosmer and altemer age yourself ;)

Spoiler! :
The mer really have a BIG variety in life span, and your characters age will tell a lot about your character when you play as a mer.
  • Peasant or very adventurous mer, who are not pampered and cared for well, will live to around 120ish.
  • Nobles are likely to live 400ish years, if Barenziah's age means anything.
Talented mages can live as long and longer than the nobles, with the Telvanni magelords being around 1000 and more. Hell, Dyviath Fyr is nearly as old as recorded history at age 4000ish. However, DF is a very special case, and lived as an altmer, then a chimer, and a dunmer.
This one goes for any other race to, a talented wizard could extend his life span a great deal, but I guess maybe not as long as a mer, then it should be a REALLY talented wizard or maybe some dealings med a Daedra
  • Nords and Imperials are about the same, they could live up to 100 yrs.
  • Bretons have the same life span as Imperials

Huh, I just always assumed the elven races were immortal, like a lot of elves in fantasy settings.

Anyway, I usually go with a Bosmer thief, but this time I'm liking the sound of an Imperial ranger/mage I think. Male, and probably pretty young-looking.

Name: Joseph 'Joe' Harper
Race: Redguard
Age: Around 25-30
Gender: M
Appearance: Generic face (I'm crap at altering it realistically) but lightened skin, I'm only using Redguard for the background, but want to be caucasian in game. (Did I spell that correctly?)
Playstyle - Probably going to be a lightly armoured swordsman with knowledge of Restoration, Conjouration and Alteration. I might also have some Destruction.

Background -
Spoiler! :
Joey grew up in Chorrol where he lived a happy childhood. He and his father were directly related to a man named 'Baurus'. Joey never really knew much about this man, except that he was a friend with someone who had once had the honour of being the Archmage of the Mages guild and Guildmaster of the Fighters Guild. Due to the friendship between the two in the past, Joey was always well recieved at both organisations and would often spend his spare time honing his skills at either place. At the age of 17, his parents hired a cart and took his fathers horse up to a place called 'Cloud Ruler Temple', bringing Joey with him. This was to make sure the boy could 'learn what his ancestor did, and why that makes him so special' because 'now he is mature enough to understand'.

Sadly, as they neared Bruma, bandits attacked them and, though Joey and his father fought well, they were overwhelmed and his father was killed. His body was left lying in the road as the cart went up in flames, Joey and his mother were bound and bundled onto the backs of horses as the gang made their way up to their camp in the North of Cyrodiil. When they reached the camp, Joey's mother was dealt with in the way that was to be expected before having her throat cut and fed to the dogs, all whilst Joey watched. He was kept for 6 months as something between entertainment, a punchbag and a slave, forced to demean himself in front of the gang or clean their kit, or expect more beatings.

After the 6 months, the gang got bored of looting as they had enough to start up legitimate lives and live comfortably for the rest of their lives. They decided to disband, setting the dogs on their slave. Fortunately Joey had managed to keep himself in peak physical condition and had learnt from the gang how to deal with the dogs. As they rode off back to the camp, leaving one bandit with Joey and the dogs, it was easy work for him to deal with the first dog leaping at him, before stunning the second. He then tackled the guard, stole his weapon and slew the hounds, before dealing with the bandit. The last of the bandits recieved a shock when Joey rode rode into the clearing, shooting two down with a bow before dismounting and killing the rest. Sadly, the ring leader was gone, leaving only a note to his lieutenant to explain where he went.

Next, Joey hunted for the man who had decided to kill his parents, and many more as well. It took him a few years, but he eventually found him, now living the life as a 'pillar of the community' in a town. No one who knew him would've guessed that only a few years ago, this man had committed tens of murders all in the name of personal gain. Joey, having failed to convince the authorities of this mans guilt, calmly walked up to him as he tended his crops, saying only 'Remember me?' and seeing the look of fear in the man's eyes before running him through with the lieutenants sword.

Joey then knelt beside the body and waited, waited for the guards to arrive...
Okay, Hytro. I don't think I've left ANY things you could complain with regards to the lore, but knock yourself out looking.

The reason most Argonian classes are like that, is because that is what the race stat bonuses are good for. Wood elves will usually have a bow, and Bretons will have a mage setup. People generally go with what the race already starts off good in.

Yeah, I might go with a mage class sometime. I just prefer the fast paced swordman type. Hope glass armor looks like it did in Morrowind. The new magic system seems interesting. With one spell you can either throw a fireball, make a fiery tripmine glyph, or use it like a flamethrower. Wonder what other spells look like.

Also I said that the knights were raided by necromancers, not Stalke killing the knights (he is good guy, no evil!) Also he was a natural at the arts for some reason (herp derp related to champion of cyrodiil). Some nice stories from people, Lord's one is the best :D

The problem is still that the timeline doesn't work. If your parents were killed in the Oblivion Crisis, the only viable father would the the Champion of Cyrodiil. ._.

About the descendant thing, just read Aflys post.

And I did not say your character killed the knights, I said you killed them off, as in you, the writer.
And fighting skills and experience does not come from genetics... but yeah, I guess thats not THAT big of a deal :P

The closest thing to a "immortal" Mer would be Dyviath Fyr who is over 4000 years now... but yeah, still not immortal :P

So if anyone want to play a old Mer character, they should go for a Mer mage character.

what about the Triburnal (well before the Neverarine came of course) hytro? Vivec, Sotha Sil and Almalexia were all functionally immortal so long as they had access to The Heart of Lorkan for their ritual. ;)
