Wokka once spawned a load in the Begging Room.

Don't know about any occurring naturally though.

According to the Minecraft wiki, slimes spawn in the bottom sixteen layers of the map in cavernous spaces. They're very rare in Beta 1.2_02, but were made more common in 1.3. It also says that in SMP, slimes are client-side, so only one player will be able to see any given slime.

Unless they are spawned in front of all of the clients, once you unload the chunk, you can't see them anymore.

They are a pain in the ass to get rid of :)
